Quirky you

While at Jollibee, killing time, I observed people’s quirky manners. Here are what I got:
On my left, a petite woman has just wolfed down a chicken barbecue and two cups of rice. Woah.
On the other hand, two costumers on my right side were wearing unfashionable outfits. LOL. I hate it when people just throw in whatever clothes available without thinking if the clothes will look right.
In front of me were a mother and child. It was amazing that Ma’s drinking iced tea while the child’s gulping soft drinks!
Here’s the funniest ‘table’ I had noticed:
Then here’s the other costumers, I could not distinguish if they were an item. Anyway, they ordered the same beef and mushroom but I found it funny how the guy looked at the matching foods, compared and assessed them, and ended up switching the plates that were already on their designated tables. LOL. Ergo, they were not couples.
After the man has finished his plate, he kept of getting extra viand from the girl. Poor lady! Besides, the guy kept on drinking their upsized drinks. He almost consumed all the liquid. LOL. LOL. LOL.
P.S. sometimes, it’s good to mind other’s businesses. :D

rubbing elbows with stellars

Too bad I didn’t have any digi cam at hand, I couldn’t use my phone for I treated it as my recorder. LOL. Instead, I used this image from google for the lack of eye candy.

April 27, 2011= first day of field reporting with DFA as my beat.

Since I didn’t have any mentor to guide me with my first day of deployment, the reporter from Philippine Star Ms. Pia Barog, together with her own trainees, Jenn Ferrer jrn4 and Yeye of St. Scho, tagged me along US Embassy to cover the opening of their new annex. Owing to my monotonous first day, I gladly joined the invitation. * Note: I entered DFA exactly at 8 a.m. and nobody was inside the Press office, they arrived at around 10, imagine how ecstatic I was upon their arrival!

It was my time to go inside US Embassy or any delegation at that. Their security was tight, the strictest embassy according to Ms. Pia. The new annex and the Embassy as a whole, is the second largest US commission in the planet, after (if I heard it right) that in Mexico.

Fast forward to the stellar guests of the event: Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno, Augusto Zobel de Ayala, singers Ogie Alcasid, Jaya, Nina, Leah Salonga, Raissa Laurel (the amputated lawyer student), and former ABS-CBN reporter Adrian Ayalin were present in the gathering. I was stars struck! 0___0

Isko Moreno was very stunning. Boy, he was handsome. He left me drooling. Maybe that’s why he won the mayoral position. LOL. LOL. LOL.

Another bonus: I was able to submit two articles, wonder if they’ll be published tomorrow.

'nice' ojt perks

For the lack thereof better titles, I ended up tagging my thoughts as “internship perks”. I have been a student intern for People’s Journal and The Manila Times and so far, my assessment of my work is “nice”. LOL. What a stupid word to describe my experience. For me, “nice” is an all-purpose word. How was your day?—Nice. Describe that person please—I think he’s nice. Yeah, whatever, I’m rambling. Anyway, the following were some of the plus sides of my on the job training (OJT).

Meeting MNLF leader Nur Missuari (and other prominent people, but he aced the list)

Whew! What a lengthy breaker I got there huh? Anyway, I have nonchalantly passed by Tony Calvento of the Calvento Files, ABS-CBN reporter Nico Baua and the likes. Too bad I wasn’t able to attend AJ Perez’s (OMG) wake. Tss. May you rest in peace dear, feeling close? One of my co-trainees said that he looked ‘nice’ (LOL) as if he was a mannequin.

Anyway, last Tuesday, I met Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) leader Nur Missuari. Beforehand, we were told not to shake hands with him since the Muslim tradition asserts that only spouses are allowed to have physical contacts whatsoever with the opposite gender. Good thing, I was able to control by wandering hands.
The course of the roundtable was about Mindanao peace talks, Middle East disputes and to some extent, personal details about the Muslim chairperson.

“They [Mindanao people] don’t like war. They only want peace and democratic freedom,” the former University of the Philippines student said. Kudos to the people of Mindanao.

I was enlightened with the issue about them being an autonomous region. He metaphorically linked the topic with the cutting of baby’s umbilical cord. Missuari explained that Mindanao like a newborn, needs to be separated from his mother by slashing the cord. But despite the partition, the baby and mother are still connected.

The ending of the meeting was I doing a timeline article about the history of MNLF.

Free entrance to recreational areas (and the buffet-meal that comes after them)

Covering the new tourist attractions in Manila Ocean Park was not part of my training for I was assigned in the police beat, however, I was tagged to go and see the latest attractions of the tourist spot. I was with my friends—Claire, Care, Zel, Egybu, and Jeccah. After visiting the park, we ate in the nearest bar—Sandbar (for free). What’s funny was I were overly-dress for the occasion! Stated in the invitation was that “prominent bloggers are invited” so I dressed up for the occasion, but much to my dismay, I did not recognize any ‘person’ in the event. However, it was hitting two birds at the same time: covering while having fun. ‘Nice’ right? LOL here we go again with me using “nice” word.

The lists were just some of the few perks I have received, since I’m not yet finished with my OJT surely more bonuses are coming my way. Next week, I’ll be deployed in the Department of Foreign Affairs. Wish me luck. I hope to have a ‘nice’ job. LOL.

BLAH!

Pardon my random lamentation and constant blathering. This entry is a whirlwind, aiming particularly to nothing.

I.Sense and sensibilities
Who says that life’s fair? Nah-uh, it isn’t. George Orwell states in his “Animal Farm” that “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others” a maxim which I firmly believe.

Yonder, I am not discussing animals here.

Every man possesses same faculties, however each differs on how he uses his senses and sensibilities. Conversely, there are times when man properly exercises his faculties but the society hinders his expression of individuality.

My point is (sometimes) no matter how hard one tries to achieve his aspirations, there are outward forces—environment, hierarchy, time—which can hamper the realization of the aim.

II.What the Hell?
“All my life I’ve been good but now I’m thinking what the hell? ”
“All I want is to mess around and I don’t really care about.”

I love these excerpt from Avril’s “What the Hell.”
I wish I couldn’t care but hell, I mind. Yeap, I think, I think too much…

Never a White Flag

Tug. Tug. Tug. My heart was pounding hard as I opened my email account. Shoot, mailer demon.

I had my hopes high that I would be accepted in Malaya—one of the country’s broadsheets—when I emailed them my resume and recommendation letter two days ago. But to my dismay, I received the mailer demon, ergo they did not get my application letter.

I wanted to tag myself as a “writer.” I write for my Faculty’s publication. However, I had to ask myself over and over again if it was right to proclaim myself as a journalist. I thought that I would have an edge in applying for our ojt, since I write for my college. But to my dismay, the top three broadsheets in the country did not accept my application. Manila Bulletin said I was accepted, but belonged in the second batch (if I waited for my turn, hell it would be June by then, too late), The Philippine Daily Inquirer on the other hand, snubbed my calling and the Philippine Star misplaced my resume. What the hell?

Tug. Tug. Tug. My heart was pounding hard (again) as this time, after checking my email account, I opened a new tab and typed the ‘Varsitarian’. My classmate said that the results of the exam were posted in the site, at first I wanted to snub the results thinking that if ever I did pass the exam, they would text me anyway. But, my application number was nowhere to be found in the roster of passers! What a shame, right?

What hubris then that I fondly tagged “writer” as my affiliation.

Today, I discovered that timing is everything. Why do we have to learn the hard way? Anyway, I am depressed and heartbroken, but boy, never will I wave a white flag.
